WE LOVE OUR PETS – Please
bring in pictures of your pet(s) with your name and your pet(s) name on the
back. We will display them on our special Pet Bulletin Board for
January and February and give them back to you in March.

Jan. 14 & 15: Pets on Shirts Day! Children
come dressed with
pets on their shirt.
Jan. 27:
Scrubby Bear will be visiting from the Red Cross.
Feb. 11 & 12: Valentine's Day Parties! If
your child is not
normally here either day, please make arrangements
with their teacher to bring him/her. Please have your
child bring in his/her valentine cards by February 8th.
Feb. 22 & 23: Pajama Day! Children come
dressed in warm P.J.'s!
(Please have children wear their shoes and socks.)
TIDBITS
1. We wish to extend a warm thank you to all of our
students and their parents, relatives and friends who attended our 30th
annual Gaul's Nursery and Arts Centre Christmas Concert, held in December at
the Maple Shade High School. We thank everyone for helping to make it such a
success!
2. If you would like your child to bring in valentines,
please leave the envelopes blank. That way, we can be sure that each child
receives an equal number of valentines. It would probably be easiest to send
the amount of valentines that are in your child's group. Please send cards
in by Feb. 8th. The groups are approximately as follows:
Morning & Full Day Bears - 24
Morning & Full Day Bunnies - 24
T - TH afternoon - 15
M-W-F afternoon - 15

4. Thanks for all the party goodies that you sent in
during the holidays!
5. Please bring your child’s nap room pillow and blanket
in the sacs we
provided, as they keep everything fresh for naptime.

your file such as new address, new phone number, allergy, etc.
8. Some Helpful Lunchtime Reminders:
1. If your child has fruit at lunch and likes his/her fruit cut up,
please
make sure you cut it before putting it in the lunch box.
2. In the winter the cubby room keeps food cool but please use ice
packs to keep food colder.
3. Don’t forget those happy lunchtime messages on napkins. The kids
love notes, hearts & hugs from home! Thanks!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
THE IMPORTANCE OF READING ALOUD
Literacy specialists tell us that reading aloud helps with developing
language and all its nuances, with building comprehension, building critical
thinking skills, and discovering classic text structures.
Beyond that, there are still more advantages to be gained. Good children's
books offer a strong sense of values and responsibilities. Helping your
child learn about things such as friendship, kindness, patience, and bravery
in the context of a story is one way to develop shared values.
Stories have power. We share joys and sorrows through stories. Books allow
you and your children to visit many worlds together, and hear many voices.
Through books, children begin to feel the power of many different stories,
and learn that their stories matter too.
Books read aloud bring comfort to children. The world outside can be hard,
confusing, and scary, as children navigate through social interactions. A
child's inner world can contain fears, worries, and other strong emotions,
and books provide ways to talk about all of this.
Reading aloud to little children gives us all of this. But reading aloud
should not stop with children when they learn to read independently, lest we
lose some of these valuable things.
Reading aloud creates a kind of energy, becoming a new adventure that bonds
adults and children.
Find a good book, and read it aloud.
