It is essential to maintain a small class size to insure that the children can be taught individually. This provides the opportunity for on-going activities that will enhance their learning.

Actual experiences will be remembered much longer than hearing a teacher simply tell about something; therefore, weekly field trips are an integral part of our curriculum.

In reading readiness, it is not enough to work on letter sounds only at reading time. They need to be reinforced constantly. "Living With the Alphabet" (our readiness series) uses each letter sound for every subject. A letter and its sound are studied for 1 or 2 weeks, and during that time, every activity begins with that letter

Children are individuals, they are not all ready for reading (or other skills) at the same time. Therefore, when a child is ready, he/she begins to learn to read. If not, he/she continues at the readiness level.

The math curriculum used is called "Mathematics Today" and is published by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. It has a learning page, practice page, re-teaching page and enrichment page for every lesson, which allows for individual differences. After an initial lesson, the child who encounters trouble can work on the re-teaching page and the child who needs a challenge can work on the enrichment page.

Lastly - and most important - Gaul’s Nursery & Arts Centre creates a caring environment where the child and teacher develop a warm relationship, one which is very important for learning.

Our Kindergarten student's day to day schedule follows this general pattern, while making use of the Weekly Units of Study and the Special Days, Events and Themes which guide the overall activities at the Centre;
